The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added another veteran wide receiver in an effort to bolster the position, officially signing Lavelle Hawkins to a deal on Monday.
Hawkins, who has 71 career receptions for 771 yards and one career touchdown, had a connection with the Bucs prior to signing: Offensive Coordinator Jeff Tedford was his head coach at California.
The 27-year-old is hoping that reuniting with his old coach will resurrect his struggling NFL career. He spent four seasons with the Tennessee Titans after they drafted him in the 4th round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He hasn’t had a catch since 2012, and bounced around to three different teams in 2013.
Tampa Bay has made two other notable moves at wide receiver this offseason: the signing of the speedy Louis Murphy, and the trading of Mike Williams to the Buffalo Bills for a 6th round pick.
