ProFootballTalk are now confirming that if the Bucs do trade up to the second overall pick it is to select Johnny Manziel.
A report from ProFootballTalk has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers making a big jump in this year’s draft as they are apparently looking to move up to the number two spot in Thursday’s draft.
There isn’t much substance to the story in terms of what player the Bucs are looking to draft second overall if they do in fact trade up, but they apparently feel that the player they want won’t fall to them at number seven, their current position in the first round.
The Bucs are big fans of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and they may have concerns that he doesn’t make it pass Jacksonville (third overall), Cleveland (fourth overall), and Oakland (fifth overall).
Sammy Watkins is also highly touted to be drafted before the Bucs are scheduled to pick at No.7 so there may be interest in moving up in the draft to nab him.
However, if the Bucs do in fact trade up, it’ll be interesting to see what they give up to make the move. They currently only have six draft picks in 2014 (they have no fourth rounder) so any move will likely have to involve picks in later years.
