Dashon Goldson Hopes to Return From Foot Injury by Training Camp

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson is still recovering from off-season foot surgery, but there is now an estimated return date from his injury.

Goldson is apparently aiming to be back by training camp, according to ESPN.

“I think training camp will be a good timetable,” he said Tuesday after not participating in OTA’s. “Right now, I’m just relying on our training staff to get me back right.”

The 29-year-old says he sustained the injury during the season but wanted to wait until the off-season to resolve the problem.

Along with his teammate at safety, Mark Barron, Goldson missed minicamp last month. However, Barron was back on the field today, but head coach Lovie Smith once again expressed his confidence in his two safeties.

“It’s critical for us to have great safety play,” Smith said. “It’s been like that since the beginning of time and it hasn’t changed. We’re as good as anybody around at the safety position. Dashon Goldson is one of the guys that’s watching right now. Mark Barron is getting back out there. They have video. Both of them are perfect matches for what we’re going to do.”

A few other quotes from Goldson today:

• “Coming into our second year together, we know each other’s weaknesses and strengths. We’ll get on same page and eliminate a lot of those mistakes we had last year,” Goldson said on his partnership with Barron.
• “I’m confident. I’m comfortable with my game. I’ve just got to be careful. I’m trying not to lose any more money or any more games here due to suspension. I’ve just got to find my zone,” Goldson said regarding not getting fined/suspended for his play.
