The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a new team this year as a new head coach is in town, a new quarterback is here to lead and there is finally hope for the immediate future. But that’s a future that may not include everyone from the roster last year, as one notable name is on the bubble still after almost all of training camp is completed.
According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, the Buccaneers may end up cutting Da’Quan Bowers as he’s on the hot seat after not performing this training camp.
“I think every day you don’t practice you’re hurting your chances,” coach Lovie Smith said. “We’ve seen enough to like Da’Quan a lot, but all the reps that he’s not getting, someone else is getting. The best way to beat your competition sometimes is just to stay on the field. You can’t get Wally Pipped.”
Bowers was drafted with so much promise out of Clemson back in 2011 but he has been plagued by injuries and poor performances that have him looking like a bust. He was at one point in the running for the No. 1 overall pick but injuries sank his stock and he ended up being a steal at the time in the second round.
But Bowers has underwhelmed, and his lack of focus or motivation — or possibly just talent — may cost him his job.
