The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got an unpleasant surprise on Friday morning when a TMZ video of rookie wide receiver Mike Evans fighting at a nightclub came to light, causing a slew of problems that the team has no idea they’d have to deal with.
But it’s not a sure thing that Evans is going to be punished, and the team isn’t even that mad at him for fighting. According to Pro Football Talk, the Buccaneers are not saying that the video that was released isn’t their rookie wide out but they’re also not saying they’re mad at him.
“During his time here since we drafted him in May, Mike has met all of our expectations both on and off the football field,” coach Lovie Smith said in a statement issued Friday night. “After speaking with Mike, our feelings about him remain unchanged. We expect him to be an important member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for many years to come and we consider this matter closed.”
The Bucs aren’t condoning what Evans is doing as they’ve had more than their fair share of off the field trouble with players in the past. Don’t get it twisted, Evans already having problems isn’t encouraging but the fact that the Bucs aren’t that concerned means the situation isn’t as serious as it apparently seems.
