Cam Newton is one of the fastest rising quarterbacks in the NFL and naturally that makes him a thorn in the side of the Buccaneers. He chewed up Raheem Morris’ crappy schemes and dominated Greg Schiano’s — whatever that was he threw on the field — which has many wondering if Lovie Smith will be able to stop him.
Right now a rib injury is doing a fine job of stopping Newton, as the team has been monitoring his injury as well as his recovery from offseason surgery, to see where he’s at heading into Week 1. According to Newton he feels fine, but the team is a little bit more skeptical.
According to the AP, Newton is planning on being ready Week 1 when the Buccaneers and Panthers meet to open the season.
“There’s no doubt in my mind.,” Newton said Wednesday. “I’m going to worry about things that I can control and come in and get in as much treatment as possible so that my body will be 100 percent.”
Newton has been struggling with a rib injury he suffered in the Panthers most recent preseason game against New England Patriots. But even injured, Newton has had the Bucs number in the past which is something Lovie’s regime will look to change. He’s not unstoppable, but he’s sure looked that way against Tampa Bay in the past.
