Buccaneers vs. Panthers: Cam Newton may miss Week 1

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will kick off their season on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers but they may be going up against a very different team than they have been preparing for.

Cam Newton has been hobbled by a rib injury ever since he got banged up in a preseason game against the New England Patriots and that may carry over into the regular season. according to Newton himself, his ribs might not be ready enough to return to action and he may miss this Sunday’s game against the Bucs.

If Newton can’t go on Sunday, the Bucs will be facing Derek Anderson which would be the most ideal situation possible. Obviously, you want to face the best and beat the best but you can’t turn away an opportunity to start your season against a so-so backup quarterback.

Newton is officially a game-time decision for the Panthers, which means Tampa Bay will be preparing as if Newton will play and Anderson will be dealt with if needed.
