As the gamer world awaits the release of EA Sports’ Madden 17, we’ve been getting sneak previews of positional rankings. Buccaneers running back Doug Martin ranks high among the group.

From a player that was nearly forgotten and appeared to be on the roster bubble this time last season, Doug Martin has moved from near bust to upper-echelon in the world of running backs. As far as the gaming world is concerned, that’s good news for all of you Madden enthusiasts.

EA Sports revealed their top five running back ratings for the upcoming game, scheduled for an August 23rd release, and our beloved muscle hamster came in third with an overall ranking of 90.

Here is what the brief breakdown on Douggie had to say;

"“At the start of the Madden NFL 16 season Martin was a 78 overall. In Madden NFL 17 he has jumped to the 3rd best overall running back in the game. Martin won’t win a foot race against anyone, but he will run through them. Utilize him on north south runs rather than tosses and pitches.”"

Most Bucs fans that used Martin in the past tend to have more luck running between the tackles as opposed to tosses and pitches, so that’s nothing new in terms of strategy. However, it’s great to see Martin getting some love from the guys at EA.

Doug Martin is ranked behind Steelers’ running back Le’Veon Bell – who is now facing a potential four game suspension to start the season – and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Bell came in at a 94 overall, while Peterson came in at a 91. Rounding out the top five were Kansas City Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles with an 89 overall and in a bit of a surprise new Texans’ running back Lamar Miller came in with an 88.
