Buccaneers Sign Josh Huff, Make Other Roster Moves

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed troubled receiver Josh Huff to their practice squad in addition to a few other roster moves.
In a somewhat puzzling move, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added wide receiver Josh Huff to their practice squad today, despite his recent run in with the law. As some of you may know, Huff was recently arrested for marijuana and gun possession. Huff was in possession of an unloaded 9mm handgun without a permit and a magazine with six hollow point bullets.
Huff had been with the Eagles since 2014 and only has 48 receptions for 482 yards and four touchdowns in that span. He has also scored two touchdowns on kick returns, one in 2014 and one earlier this season.

The signing of Huff is perplexing given the fact the Buccaneers released Austin Seferian-Jenkins a few weeks ago due to his run in with the law, having been arrested for a DUI. The Bucs appeared to want to rid themselves of these questionable personalities, yet bring one in that could be facing jail time.

The Bucs placed wide receiver Louis Murphy on the season ending PUP list after he suffered a setback coming off his ACL tear last season. Murphy had contemplated retirement before attempting a comeback so it’s not out of the question to think he’s played his last snap in the NFL.
Running back Antone Smith was placed on injured reserve, ending his season as well. Smith stepped in to help a battered running back corps with the injuries to Doug Martin, Charles Sims, and Jacquizz Rodgers. Running back Russell Hansbrough was brought up to the 53-man roster to replace Smith.
Mike Evans and Kevin Pamphile are under the concussion protocol. Evans returned to practice Monday and appears as if he will play Sunday if things continue as they are. Pamphile did not participate, but that doesn’t mean he’s ruled out Sunday quite yet.

Doug Martin was also a no show at practice, but again, the Buccaneers are optimistic that he returns this Sunday. His lack of participation today does not rule him out Sunday by any means. We’ll have a better idea of his status come Wednesday’s practice.
