The Buccaneers must do what they can to sign Nick Mangold.

More from The Pewter Plank

They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Well this guy was never trash, but he would definitely be a treasure for the Buccaneers. The offensive line is one of the several places the Bucs need to improve. Joe Hawley and Evan Smith have been the guys in the middle.

Well that can change if the Bucs pay attention. Most of you are familiar with Nick Mangold. Take a look at what he had to say on Twitter earlier today:

Now, he is former New York Jets center Nick Mangold. He absolutely should be the next center for the Bucs.

Yes, he suffered injury problems last year that allowed him only to take part in eight games. Yes, he is 33 years old. But those things diminish as you look at the body of work. Before 2016, Mangold missed a whopping three games. That’s it. That’s not just durable, that is a rock.

Not only has he been durable, but he has played well. Seven times Mangold has been selected to the Pro Bowl, including as recently as 2015. It isn’t as if he is far-removed from solid play. This is not  trend of injuries, there is hardly evidence of that. The solid play has far outweighed the recent injuries.

Mangold has been able to direct an offensive line while the offensive coordinators have been a revolving door behind him. Since he entered the league, his offense was led by Brian Schottenheimer, Tony Sparano, Marty Mornhinweg, and Chan Gailey. He has snapped the ball to Chad Pennington, Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Kellen Clemens and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Through it all, he has remained as stellar as he was the first day he walked into New York.
