#WeaponsForWinston. The Buccaneers continue to surround their franchise quarterback with offensive threats, adding Penn State star receiver Chris Godwin.

That’s more like it! The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to stand pat at 84th overall and take a playmaker in the form of Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin. Despite the addition of DeSean Jackson, the Bucs’ wide receiving corps was still one injury away from the dumpster fire they had last season. Tampa needed to find a guy that could not only contribute right away, but could also grow into Mike Evans’ complimentary number two for the future.

Running back was obviously still in play in the third round, but the value of Godwin was too good to pass on. That being said, what did Bucs fans think of that choice?

Godwin certainly garnered the attention of the nation at the Rose Bowl where he had nine catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns against USC.

More from Bucs Draft

The Buccaneers will have plenty of options again as day three kicks off. There are still a few running back options out there in Marlon Mack and Samaje Perine, but the Bucs may still look to address linebacker, cornerback, defensive line, and potentially a backup quarterback competitor.

The air assault that will take place in Raymond James Stadium is unlike any ever seen by a Buccaneers team before. Evans, Jackson, Godwin, Adam Humphries, Cameron Brate, and O.J. Howard will give Winston a buffet of options to get the ball in the hands of playmakers.

I still firmly believe running back is the biggest need for this team in day three. With a division that features running back tandems of Tevin Coleman/Devante Freeman, Adrian Peterson/Mark Ingram/Alvin Kamara, and Christian McCaffrey/Jonathan Stewert, the Bucs are far and away trailing the pack with Doug Martin/Jacquizz Rodgers/Charles Sims. It’ll have to be addressed for this offense to reach its full potential.

The value of Godwin at 84 plus the value he brings to the offense made this pick almost a no-brainer. Get ready to fire the cannons!
