Breaking down the Buccaneers training camp battles, starting with the placekicker.

It’s going to be a fun summer for Buccaneers fans. Not only is training camp coming. Not only is it training camp prior to what may be a very exciting season for us. We will also get to watch much of it play out on TV. When you get through all of the dramatic, made for TV effects, Hard Knocks gives the fans a unique perspective of what goes on during training camp.

You get the opportunity to see the heartbreak when a player is released. We see the fun and games that go on when the players are not out on the field. We will likely see what many of them do for fun. Rookie hazing is often a popular portion of the program, or at least a funny one. What we will see, guaranteed, are position battles. We will see them on the field, and we will see them discussed behind closed doors.

Today we at going to start looking at those battles. Jerry Stalheim wrote a very interesting piece on the training camp battles we should watch this summer. Here, we are going to take the battles he chose and go into an in-depth breakdown of each one. We might even give you a prediction.

We start with one that won’t be very exciting to watch on television, but one that is important to the team. Watching side by side placekicks is very boring sounding, but it may just happen. That’s the battle we are going to look at on this Sunday afternoon. The battle for the placekicker position.

Let’s get to it.
