Breaking down the Buccaneers training camp battle at safety.

The safety position has long been a weakness for the Bucs. The Buccaneers have brought in some new blood to improve their safety core.  This offseason Tampa signed safety JJ Wilcox from Dallas and drafted safety Justin Evans out of Texas A&M. The Bucs also re-signed Chris Conte, but I believe he’d be better served as a backup/depth player.

Keith Tandy this past season received an opportunity to start week 13 due to an injury to Conte and he made the most of it. Tandy sealed the game against the Chargers with an interception late in the fourth. The following week, Tandy would do it again versus the Saints. Tandy continued to play strongly for the rest of the season, effectively locking up his starting role for the next season.

The matchup between Wilcox and Evans will be interesting to see. Next, let’s take a look at the case for each player and make a prediction on who will win the starting job.
