He devastated quarterbacks, won a Super Bowl and became the favorite player of an entire generation of Buccaneers fans. Now Warren Sapp can add Hall of Famer to his long list of accomplishments. Sapp was one of seven former players named to the 2013 Class of NFL Hall of Famers.

Joining Sapp in getting inducted this August will be Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter, Chiefs legend Larry Allen, Ravens offensive lineman Jonathan Ogden, Dave Robinson, Curly Culp and head coach Bill Parcells.

Sapp was joined by former Buccaneers safety Johny Lynch in the semifinal stage of the voting process, but Lynch didn’t make it any further. But while Lynch remains a favorite to many Buccaneers fans and is to this day one of the best safeties to ever suit up for any team, Sapp was without a doubt the best player the Bucs had from the 90s until the mid-2000s.

When Sapp came to the Bucs in the early 90s, Tampa was struggling to find it’s face. The franchise had existed since 1976, but the Bucs had never truly arrived with any sort of a presence in the NFL. There were some stars on teams prior, like Ricky Bell and fellow Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon but it had been some time since the Bucs had a face to their franchise.

Enter: Warren Sapp.

For years Sapp was the goofy yet fierce defensive machine for the Buccaneers and started a heated rivalry with Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Every time the Packers and Bucs clashed, Sapp vs. Favre was the story.

Many believe that if the Buccaneers had a quarterback that was somewhat manageable in the late 90s, they would have had a dynasty thanks to the defense that was being lead by Sapp.

He’s always been a character and didn’t always make friends with everybody in the room, but Bucs fans loved him dearly and still do. And now, come August, those same fans that stood behind Sapp for over a decade, will watch him become the second member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise to get a bust in Canton.

Warren Sapp, No. 99, is a Hall of Famer.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added an ex-NFL head coach to their staff to replace recently fired special teams coach Bob Ligashesky. Former Dolphins head coach (and that’s going back quite a ways) Dave Wannstedt was hired on Friday to become the Buccaneers new special teams coach.

Wannstedt spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, most recently serving as the Bills defensive coordinator. He was fired along with Chan Gailey and the rest of his staff on New Years Eve.

The fact that Wannstedt has wound up in Tampa should really be surprising to no one. Both Greg Schiano and Wannstedt spent time together in Chicago, with Wannstedt serving as Schiano’s boss as the head coach of he Bears. But back then Schiano was just the learner while now he is the master.

Schiano and Wannstedt bumped into each other on plenty of occasions while they were both in the Big East back in their college coaching days. But in becoming the Buccaneers special teams coach, Wannstedt is doing so for the first time in his NFL coaching career.

The move to hire Wanndstedt doesn’t hurt at all, although some may take issue with his lack of coaching success in the recent past. But Greg Schiano is doing the same exact thing he did last year when he was assembling a brilliant staff — he’s seeking out guys that know what they’re doing and surrounding himself with them.

The Sedin’s and Staal’s pump out hockey stars like no other family, and while the Harbaugh’s are currently the darling siblings of the NFL at the moment, there’s another trio of brothers that are taking care of business in the NFL.

And one of them might be destined for Tampa.

Marcus and Isaiah Trufant are both considered to be high ranking cornerbacks in the NFL right now, and their little brother Desmond is set to join them. The University of Washington standout is one of the best cornerbacks in the draft which means Bucs fans can start talking about a name other than Dee Milliner.

While getting Milliner, who is without a doubt the best cornerback prospect in the 2013 draft class, would be a dream for the Bucs, there is a very real possibility that he won’t be available at No. 13 when the Bucs are put on the clock. We discussed a scenario where the Bucs trade down earlier today, but they may not have to trade down to get who they want.

After an outstanding Senior Bowl, Trufant has shot up draft boards and his stock now has him being selected in the first two rounds of the draft. The Bucs could hold out hope that he’ll be available at pick No. 43 , but if Trufant really wows teams at the combine he very well could be gone by the end of the first day.

There’s also the possibility that a team copies the scenario we laid out this morning and trades back into the first round to select him.

Chances are offensive skill players will dominate the second day of the draft, meaning if he’s not selected on the first day Trufant could slide to the Bucs at 43rd overall.

But if the Bucs can somehow get him, he’ll be an instant impact player in a secondary that desperately needs a jolt of talent. He doesn’t have an extensive highlight reel from his days with the Huskies, but he doesn’t have to. His talent is visible as soon as you see him set foot onto the gridiron.

What I’d love for the Bucs to do is trade back, select Johnthan Banks, compile picks and trade back into the first round to draft Trufant thus doubling up on corners.

Even if the Bucs don’t trade back into the first round, Desmond Trufant needs to get some serious attention when it comes to who the Bucs could and should draft in April.
