The NFL and the NFLPA continued meeting again today as the league’s labor negotiations continued under the supervision of George Cohen. Whispers have been emerging all week that things are getting better and a bit of optimism seems to be welling up from people around the NFL. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that things are getting closer to a resolution, the players have gone back to their tried and tested complaint about the lack of financial transparency on the part of the owners. Peter King of the SI reports that the owners may be getting closer to opening the books, but that could open a whole new can of worms.

For the meantime though, both sides agree as long as talks are on-going things are going well. The media black-out has actually been abided by on both sides and as a result concrete information is difficult to come by. We know who goes in each day, for instance today it was Kevin Maware, Jay Feely, Jeff Saturday, Mike Vrabel and Domonique Foxworth along with the various suits typically associated with the NFLPA side. On the owners side John Mara of the Giants, Redskins GM Bruce Allen and Chiefs owner Clark Hunt also attended.

Ironically, the best comments available on the issue came from Patriots owner Bob Kraft as he was involved in a political envoy in Israel with the governor of Massachusetts.

“We’re doing everything we can to get a deal consummated,” Kraft said to Comcast Sports New England on Monday. “I personally believe it’s possible …

“[The] good news is, it’s always good to be talking when you have differences of opinion. It’s the only way you have a chance [to reach an agreement]. So we’re talking, and I know from ownership’s side that we feel there’s a deal to be made and we’d very much like to do it.”
