TAMPA — Here are some of the NFL tid-bits making headlines this week.

NFL News and Notes

The Minnesota Vikings have suspended second-year cornerback Chris Cook indefinitely and without pay for his role in a domestic abuse arrest Saturday. Cook allegedly choked his girlfriend of 10 months so hard her eye bled and his hand prints were left on her neck. It’s the second time this year Cook has been in legal trouble.

The Houston Texans will be without top receiver Andre Johnson for a fourth consecutive week. Johnson injured his hamstring in a game earlier this year.

The Buffalo Bills have given Harvard graduate Ryan Fitzpatrick a six-year contract extension worth around $59 million with $24 million guaranteed.

The Indianapolis Colts and their owner Bill Polian are urging fans not to blame head coach Jim Caldwell for the teams win-less start to this season.

The Washington Redskins have placed tight end Chris Cooley on IR. Cooley is blaming the lockout for injury stating that because he wasn’t able to use team doctors this summer his knee could never fully heal from surgery.

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis missed practice again on Thursday and is doubtful for Sunday’s game. Hillis has seen his production nose dive and has been told the browns will not renew his contract at the end of the season.

The Raiders and Carson Palmer have said they have no interest in adding free agent receiver Terrell Owens to the roster. Teams with rumored interest in Owens include the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings despite the fact not one NFL team attended his workout.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have given troubled safety Tanard Jackson a new contract extension. Jackson missed 56 weeks of football due to suspension but after solid play in three games he now has a new chance and a $2 million raise.

Speaking of troubled players getting another chance, the Cincinnati Bengals have activated Adam “Pacman” Jones making him eligible for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Jones has missed large amounts of time due to legal troubles and has been out for a year with a neck injury.

I had to make the picture huge, just for all those that forgot what our uni’s used to look like when we were the Yucks, or the Sucks, or the Yuckaneers or the worst, the Suckaneers. They were creamsicle, we know!!! Most people around the country hate them, and always seem to mention them as one of the worst sports uni’s ever (I personally go with the Nuggets cityscape jerseys of the 90′s). There are plenty of fans around the Bay Area who you see walking around with the throwback Lee Roy Selmon, the one metioned in the picture above.

There has been talk for two years that we migth run with the retro jerseys in one of our home games, ala San Diego and Buffalo who routinely bring out their retro jerseys. Buffalo and Saint Diego’s retros though maybe my two favorite jerseys of all time…ours are creamsicle. Pewter Report is saying today that although they have no official announcement from the team, they have “learned” that the Bucs will bring out the retro’s vs the Packers on November 8th, 2009 at Ray Jay.

It has been over 13 years since the Bucs last rocked these Testaverde proof fits, and I can’t lie, I’m excited.

Willie Anderson A Buc?

Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting that Willie Anderson has narrowed his search down to 3 teams, the Bucs, Ravens and Chargers. The Ravens and the Bucs would seem to have the more pressing need at LT. Surprising the Bills aren’t on this list, being as though Jason Peters is still holding out. If i was a player though, I couldn’t blame them for not wanting to go to Buffalo.

I have to think he would be the starter at LT, even with the progression of LT Donald Penn throughout last season and this camp. Anderson was the 10th overall selection by the Bengals in the 1996 draft, and has been selected to the last 5 Pro Bowls. He would be a big veteran addition to our young line and further cement this unit as finally one of the strong points for the Bucs as opposed to normally being the worst unit on the team.
