Christmas is upon us and ’tis the season to figure out who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. While we could be cliche and name Bucs players on a naughty and nice list, we live outside the norm and go against the grain because we can. So instead of singling out players, let’s go all the way back and take a look at the Buccaneers history. The team is at a crossroads at the moment and there is a bright future ahead, but before we go there let’s take a look at where we’ve been and how far we’ve come as a franchise.

Tune in tomorrow to see what moments in Buccaneers history made the ‘Nice’ list.

12. Buccaneers Trade Steve Young

In the 1984 Supplemental Draft the Buccaneers selected a young quarterback named Steve Young from the USFL. Young was a young prospect who showed a lot of promise during his days at BYU as well as in his USFL career with the Los Angeles Express. But when he arrived in Tampa, the Bucs were hoping he could take them to the next level and develop into a franchise quarterback.

That didn’t happen.

In Young’s two seasons with the Buccaneers he posted a 3-16 as a starter and the Bucs went 2-14 in both years. In 1987, Tampa decided to move on from Young and drafted Vinnt Testaverde to try and be the new franchise guy, as Young was largely deemed a bust by everyone within the Bucs organization and around the NFL.

But Bill Walsh liked the tangibles he saw and traded for Young. The rest is history, as Young won multiple Super Bowls and was inducted into the Po Football Hall of fame within twenty years of being traded. The Bucs couldn’t string together anything respectable in terms of a team until the late nineties and still have just one Super Bowl.

Cadillac has suffered a minor ankle sprain.

Don’t worry folks, the anke sprain suffered by Cadillac Williams early Sunday morning is said to be ‘minor’. Coach Morris said he will be “day-to-day”, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he sits out the next day or so.

We all know how Williams has been prone to injury ever since his rookie season concluded, but let’s just hope this is something he can overcome during the course of the season. With Derrick Ward, Kareem Huggins and Clifton Smith working behind Williams, the Bucs should give these guys more reps in the coming days, especially Ward.

Since Earnest Graham is now the full-time starting fullback, he won’t be pulled back into the running back spot…yet. If the injuries begin to pile up for Cadillac during the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Graham take some reps at running back.

We will continue to track the progress of Williams’ ankle sprain, as well as the rest of training camp.
