Yesterday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former New England Patriots wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, who is famous for being released prior to the Super Bowl after showing his patriotism in his hair cut. The events weren’t related, but Underwood’s release was cold and calculating all the same. The team re-signed him to a futures contract after he went unclaimed, and the wideout was viewed as being a long shot to make the roster.

Nothing came of the re-signing for the Pats, as Underwood was released on the 3rd of May. With Jabar Gaffney reunited with the Pats after a stint in Denver, the team had no spot for Tiquan Underwood on the roster with Anthony Gonzalez and Dont’e Stallworth (also reunited with the team) also signed.

The 25-year-old receiver has just 11 career receptions and 26 kickoff returns, but there is a chance that he makes the 53-man roster. The Buccaneers could use some more depth as far receivers go, and Underwood is another former Rutgers receiver who is signing on to the Bucs.

The 6’1″, 183 pound receiver has a 50-50 chance of making the roster in my eyes, and it all depends on how Greg Schiano views the former Rutgers WR. Underwood’s speed and special teams value helps, and those are the two things that are going for him right now. We’ll see if the Bucs will add him to increase their depth, and it should be noted that Underwood is the fifth former Scarlet Knights player to sign with the Bucs since the beginning of the Schiano era.
