State of the Bucs

This will become a weekly series to help keep you up to date with the injuries, roster changes, and other moves that will shake up the Buccaneers roster as they prepare for game week.

Quarterback Josh Freeman was throwing yesterday after his cast was removed from his injured thumb. He was not throwing today, but appears to be on schedule to start the game Sunday.

Corner back E.J. Biggers will get the start at left corner due to the one game suspension of Aqib Talib. He beat out rookie corner back Myron Lewis as well.

Safety Sean Jones gets the start ahead of Sabby the Goat, nothing surprising here.

Rookie receiver Mike Williams and Sammie Stroughter are the two starting receivers. Maurice Stovall was back at practice, but will not start against Cleveland.

Newly acquired running back LaGarrette Blount was added to the active roster.

Keydrick Vincent will start at left guard ahead of Jeremy Zuttah.

Defensive tackle Roy Miller will start at nose tackle ahead of rookie Brian Price, but expect Price to get onto the field early and often.

Another injury hits the Bucs roster

Myron Lewis is injured and missing practices.

Saturday is the Bucs first pre-season game of the season (thank goodness football has returned!). As the Bucs prepare to take on the Miami Dolphins, several key players will not be available or limited in the amount of time they will see.

Injury updates

Talib has a minor injury.

As the Bucs continue training camp, a few injuries are beginning to take effect on some very important players. DT Brian Price has missed several practices with a sore hamstring. He has returned to practice, but is limited as the coaches monitor his hamstring. Defensive back Myron Lewis is also injured with a sore hamstring and appears to be in worse shape than Price. He has missed the last few practices, but should return soon after his hamstring heals. Neither Price or Lewis will miss any time during the regular season. Both rookies will have limited roles in the upcoming pre-season game against Miami (don’t be surprised is Lewis does not play in this one).

Another injury is to starting corner Aqib Talib who is dealing with a sore groin. Coach Morris doesn’t believe the injury is severe and Talib should be ready to continue practices once fully healed. Talib, like all the other starters, will probably only play one series against Miami on the 14th, which is good, Talib needs the rest. The Bucs need to be healthy and their star players need to be at full health. Hopefully these injuries will heal quickly and they can return to practice and prepare for the season opener.
