Cornerback – Ryan Smith

A competition… where?

Back-up cornerback Ryan Smith has his name thrown into the list this week due to the struggling second-year cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

Smith, who was switched to corner from safety this off-season, has only started one true NFL game in his two year career for the Bucs.

Smith not only has little experience as a true NFL corner, but he also has hardly seen the field on defense since he was drafted.

This all may be true, but if Hargreaves continues to struggle on the outside for the Bucs… there could be a change coming sooner rather than later. If the Bucs do decide to throw Smith into action in the Bills game this week-end, it would be to no surprise.

Hargreaves physical traits have always been more of a slot corner, but the Bucs decided to roll the dice with him on the outside. Unfortunately for Buc fans, his career may be made as that Nickel corner who only plays 70% of the defensive snaps.
