Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 15 greatest pass rushers in franchise history
By Dan Parzych
These days, it can be difficult for any player to spend an entire career in the NFL with one single team. While Lavonte David still has a long way to go, the linebacker must feel some sort of confidence in this turning out to be the case in Tampa Bay.
Rightfully so, the Buccaneers were high on David back in 2012 when they decided to use a second-round pick on the star linebacker. He’s been a key part on the defensive side of the football over the last seven seasons for the team.
The fact that David has managed to start every game for Tampa Bay in four of the last seven seasons shows how consistent he’s been. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if the Buccaneers tried to keep him around beyond 2020 when his contract is up.
With 21.5 career sacks to his name heading into 2019, David is in the perfect position to move a few spots up the all-time list in Tampa Bay after recording 3.5 sacks this past season.
At 29-years-old and with plenty of gas left in the tank, could David ever return to the same level as his sophomore NFL campaign in 2013 when he set his career high of seven sacks?
This sounds crazy to even consider, but also keep in mind expectations are higher for the Buccaneers entering the new 2019 season. Bruce Arians is now on board as the new head coach, so fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility of it being a strong year in Tampa Bay for Buccaneers football.
