The Falcons, man. It's always something.

While every other team spent the first round of this weekend's NFL Draft doing totally normal things that everyone expected, the Falcons went rogue. They saw that we were all starting to get a little bored – that the first round was starting to get a little stale – and decided to do what they do best: create needless chaos for the entertainment of everyone else. It's admirable, in its own ways.
The Falcons' commitment to being the funniest team of every NFL draft is commendable
Let's go back a year, for a second. Every thing was going as planned, and the first seven picks of the 2024 Draft were chugging along seamlessly. The Bears got their guy, the Commanders got their guy, and the Patriots definitely didn't settle for Drake Maye. You remember the rest: the Falcons quite literally made Roger Goodell's jaw drop when they came out of nowhere to take Michael Penix Jr with the eight overall pick, about 650 spots before he was expected to go. (And I know it kinda worked out for them but that's not the point of this joke.)
Now, back to present day. Surely the Falcons couldn't follow up last year's bit again, right? With Jalon Walker already wearing a Falcons hat, surely they'd just call it a night, prep a little for tomorrow, and then get some sleep. That's what a normal team would do.
The problem, of course, is that the Falcons aren't normal. Normal doesn't pay the bills. Normal teams don't land Jalon Walker and James Pearce. The Falcons are 1-of-1, trailblazers of the weird and wacky moves that define draft night memes. They did what only they're brave enough to do: trade next year's first round pick for no apparent reason. They saw the Rams and their blatant disregard for draft picks sitting right there, waiting for someone to call, and they pounced. Why? I don't know. I truly don't know. But some things aren't meant to be known.
Honestly, it's such a good bit. Everyone loves comic relief, and the NFL's most self-serious event on the calendar could certainly use it. Thank you, Atlanta Falcons. We need you more than you could ever know.
