Buccaneers Rumors: 3 Titans players to target at trade deadline
By Ryan Heckman
After a 3-1 start, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sitting at 3-3 and face an angry Buffalo Bills team this week on Thursday Night Football.
Tampa Bay could very well be looking at 3-4 after this week, but the NFC South remains open for the taking. Should the Bucs be buyers at next week's trade deadline?
If Tampa Bay wanted to shore up some holes, look no further than the Tennessee Titans, who have already dealt stud safety Kevin Byard to the Eagles. There are other names on this Titans roster of interest, too. Let's look at a few possible targets for the Bucs.
1. Amani Hooker, S
The Bucs have struggled against the pass this season, partly due to the inconsistencies in getting after the quarterback. But, back in the secondary, they could certainly use some help. Starting safety Ryan Neal has been one of the worst performers on this defensive unit in 2023, and the Bucs should seriously consider replacing him at the deadline.
One guy they could look at is Titans safety Amani Hooker. He has two years left on a 3-year, $30 million contract, but the Titans could get out of it next offseason and save over $4 million in doing so. Depending on just how much of a rebuild they'd like to go into, it's worth checking in on Hooker's availability.
On the season, Hooker has been fine in coverage. But, he's really excelled against the run. At only 25 years old, too, he could be part of the future of this defense. At the very least, he's got two years left on his deal and is relatively affordable for his talents.
