As of right now, the Buccaneers haven’t announced a new name to go up in their Ring of Honor for 2017. In past years, the team made such announcements fairly early in the calendar year. So, will there not be a new member this season or is the announcement coming later this summer? One thing we do know, however, is that there is no shortage of deserving candidates.

The Buccaneers started their “Ring of Honor” at Raymond James Stadium in 2009, finally putting together a way to pay tribute to stars of the franchise’s history. The group of Tampa Bay legends rightfully started with the enshrinement of Lee Roy Selmon and his No. 63 in 2009. 2010 brought the team’s first head coach, John McKay, into the group. In the years following, Jimmie Giles, Paul Gruber, Warren Sapp (and his No. 99), Derrick Brooks (and his No. 55), Mike Alstott, Doug Williams and John Lynch were added. So, who’s next?

Trying to figure out which current players have the potential to be included in the future is always fun. But before we all get ahead of ourselves, there are still names from the past that deserve to have their place in “Ray Jay” forever. Perhaps some of them come from the early creamsicle days, while others could come from the team’s golden years in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Here, we dive in and look at five former Bucs that deserve the recognition some time in the coming years.
