With the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take Jameis Winston. The Buccaneers’ selection of Winston shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone because over the last few days and weeks, everyone from the media to head coach Lovie Smith have offered up pretty obvious clues as to what the franchise was planning to do with the top pick.
There is one shock, though, for all the Bucs fans who bought a custom Winston jersey and thought Jameis would wear the same number that he wore as a member of the Seminoles. Apparently, a new chapter in life comes with a brand new number.
Even though my mock draft reflected differently, I welcome Winston with open arms. In the end, the Bucs will have a quarterback that they can build their future around. With the wide receiving duo of Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson and an up-and-coming tight end in Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Winston will have plenty of weapons at his disposal in an effort to help improve last year’s struggling offense. It’s a tall task to ask of a rookie quarterback, but Winston’s new Buccaneers teammates have already expressed a desire to get to work as soon as possible.
