Jameis Winston doing the right things

If you thought we were going to spotlight Winston’s touchdown run, think again. Instead, let’s talk about one particular moment where he looked like a true NFL quarterback.

In his debut against the Vikings, Jameis appeared overmatched. But this was his first NFL game! Of course he did! It was pivotal for him to show progress and growth from Week 1 to Week 2 and Famous Jameis did it in spades.

When the Bucs took Winston with the first overall pick, head coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht raved about his football IQ. Last night, this was put on full display. A handful of times, Jameis was making changes on the line, reading the coverage and putting the ball right where it needed to be.

Much like the Martin 30-yard run, there’s a lot to pick apart, but more importantly, there’s a lot to like. Before hiking the ball, Winston noticed the Bengals’ zone coverage and exploited it masterfully.

Once the ball was snapped, Jameis looked to the right side of the field before tossing it to Russell Shepard. Even though looking off the field didn’t do much to freeze the defense, the move was a step forward in Winston’s growth as a quarterback in the next level.

Then, there’s the throw. Winston put the perfect amount of strength and touch on the ball to find Shepard in stride on the seam. We can watch this all day. Or we can just wait until next week, right?
