53.
Due to “Deflategate” and the Patriots’ punishment, the Cleveland Browns have the 32nd selection in this year’s draft, but it’s in the second round. Essentially, this means the Browns have two first round picks, and have a chance to right a wrong.

It’s been 50 years since the Cleveland Browns took a quarterback in the second round. So, maybe it’s time to take another. Connor Cook represents the most seasoned quarterback in this year’s draft class, and is the best option for the Browns to draft and store a quarterback for their future.

Johnny Manziel has been a disaster, and Josh McCown is near the end of his career, so getting a young quarterback into the system who can learn and grow is essential this year. Giving Cook a season to learn behind one of the more veteran players in the league will help him grow into his role on the Browns instead of thrusting him into a position where – let’s be honest – Browns fans would be basically waiting for him to fail.

Cook is coming from a program which constantly saw his team striving to dethrone the presumed giants of their conference. So he’s no stranger to the Browns’ underdog mentality, and was consistently the Spartans’ leader of stability in crucial moments. While his draft stock suffered by returning to East Lansing, he’s a quality quarterback with plenty of upside, and could finally be the Browns’ answer at quarterback.
.
