player. 13.
The Chargers are a long way from paradise, and with Philip Rivers nearing the end of his career, there’s going to be some speculation that it’s time San Diego bring in his eventual replacement. However, for a team to truly improve, they must at least maintain what they currently have. Therein lies the problem for the Chargers.

Eric Weddle has been patrolling the field for San Diego for the last nine seasons, and now it seems the two sides have decided it’s time for a divorce. The talented safety has helped disguise some of the greater inadequacies up front, and without him, they could have exposed more than any Chargers’ fan could imagine.

Jalen Ramsey is the most versatile defensive back in the draft, and has the skills needed to come in and replace Weddle immediately. While he’s considered a prospect at both cornerback and safety positions, the Chargers will look to him as a safety, and maintain the talent they’ve enjoyed at the position for the last decade.

While there’s no replacing the years of experience Weddle is taking with him, Ramsey is by far the best safety prospect available, and has the intelligence to make up for his lack of NFL experience.
.
