Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 5. player. 52.
The Jacksonville Jaguars had practically no organic pass rush in 2015, and must add defensive line help in the draft. 2015 first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr. is expected back, but will essentially be a rookie himself, after missing his entire first year with a torn ACL.

Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith would both be suitable options here if they weren’t coming off of significant injuries themselves. The Jags need players who are available, and the best remaining is Oregon’s defensive end DeForest Buckner.

Adding Buckner means the Jaguars should be able to absorb the loss of unrestricted free agent Andre Branch should he walk, or provide much-needed depth should they be able to keep him. Although, even if they keep Branch, don’t be surprised to see Buckner and Fowler getting the majority of action on the defensive line.

Pass rushing is not Buckner’s best area, but he has the speed and drive to make it a focus in minicamps and training camp. With proper coaching, and a scheme designed to use his speed, the Jaguars coaching staff can create opportunities for Buckner to thrive in, and improve their own pass rushing abilities as well. Buckner’s strength against the run is a plus to any defensive line, but especially one who allowed over 100 first downs on the ground.
.
