31.
Three of the Giants’ 2015 starters on the defensive line are free agents, and none are expected to return. If New York doesn’t bring a top-10 lineman to the Big Apple then it won’t matter what Eli Manning is able to do, they will be picking in the top-10 again in 2017.

Shaq Lawson out of Clemson is one half of a book-end duo that played for a National Championship in the 2015 season. Against Notre Dame’s top-10 rated offensive tackle, Ronnie Stanley, Lawson tallied seven tackles including three in the backfield.

The penetration Lawson can produce is what the Giants need to add next to defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

In his career, Lawson totaled 20 sacks and more than 45 tackles for a loss. Despite an injury to his knee late in the 2015 season, teams should look to lock up this talented player early in day one.

He is scheduled to appear at the NFL Scouting Combine, and how his knee looks there, along with his pro day performance will go a long way to convincing teams he’s ready for an NFL career.

The edge on a defensive line has never been more important than in today’s NFL, and Shaq will provide the Giants with a solid edge defender for years to come.

Previously: Shaq Lawson – DE – Clemson
.
