The Saints are reportedly trying to extend the contract of quarterback Drew Brees, which would in turn free up short-term cap space.

This new-found money would undoubtedly be spent on defense, and the prime targets for the Saints would have to be James Laurinaitis who visited recently, and defensive end Olivier Vernon.  If this is the case, then it makes sense New Orleans would look to the draft to address their interior defensive line and secondary needs.

The top prospect fitting the bill for them here at number twelve is Alabama defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson.

Admittedly, Robinson is not the top talent prospect at the position this year, but if you’re drafting a key element to a rebuilt defense, you don’t need character flaws.  Draft the disciplined and talented guy over the more talented trouble-maker.
