William Gay has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which is good news, but more must be done to give the team a competitive secondary.
Ohio State’s Eli Apple showed great athleticism and ball skills with his combine performance, and has secured his spot as a first round pick in the draft.
His combine performance, pro day, and game film will all secure his spot among the top cornerbacks in this year’s class, and he is a bona fide starter sitting at 25th overall.
As an immediate starting cornerback opposite of Gay, Apple has the abilities and range to keep up with most receivers playing in the NFL today. He will eventually develop into the Steelers’ best outside defender, and will ensure the team has the defense to compete in a passing league.
