The purge of players from the Chip Kelly era has been as swift as it has been precise.  Most of the pieces exiting Philly are on the defensive side, so it’s on defense where the Eagles should choose to go with their newly acquired top-10 pick.

Joey Bosa is the draft’s top defensive lineman, and for good reason.  The Buckeye pass rusher shows quickness off the line, and even quicker hands, to get him past initial contact and into the backfield.

A less than stellar combine performance by Bosa was followed up by an impressive pro day where he seems to have re-established himself as the first defensive end off the board.

In a passing league, you need pass defense, and if the quarterback can’t get the ball off cleanly then it makes the secondary’s job much easier.

The Eagles have done some work on their secondary and in their linebacker corps, and seem to have an affinity towards Buffalo cast-outs, but they’ve yet to address the edges of their pass rush.  Considering Bosa can step in immediately as a defensive end, and shift inside, or even drop off into pass coverage when needed, he’s the easy choice at number eight.
