The Browns have moved on, the Jets don’t seem all that interested, and the 49ers continue to possess Colin Kaepernick on their roster.
The choice here if Kaepernick is gone, is Jared Goff, but until then, this arrangement will only work if the quarterback has protection.
San Francisco’s offensive line surrendered 53 sacks in 2015, and allowed the quarterback to get hit nearly 100 times. The same offensive line is now missing veteran guard Alex Boone who defected to Minnesota this off-season.
Whomever the quarterback is in the bay, they will need protection. Ronnie Stanley from Notre Dame is the best offensive lineman available, and while he may be best suited for the left tackle position, he can be moved to the right easily and will secure his passer from edge rushers.
Running back Carlos Hyde would also benefit greatly from adding Stanley, and receivers can be found in the rounds following the first.
