2016 NFL Mock Draft 9.0: Last Call
After Laremy Tunsil dominated number one pick conversations for the better part of the 2016 off-season, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz have been thrust into the position debate by way of the Los Angeles Rams’ trade for the top overall pick.
When it comes to drafting either of these quarterbacks, it’s important to look at the state of the franchise and what their short-term goals and expectations hold. For the Rams, it’s playoff aspirations and a roster they hope is ready for a young leader to come in and take them to the next level.
Goff, the quarterback from Cal, is the more polished today of the two prospects, and possesses the most pro-ready set of skills. He has the ability to come in and work with weapons like 2015 Offensive Rookie of the Year Todd Gurley at running back and receiver Tavon Austin with his big play ability every time he touches the ball.
The Rams need to add some more weapons and a veteran free-agent addition at the receiver position may be on the horizon as we near the 2016 season, but drafting Goff gives them the guy to tie it all together, and the team will continue to grow as the team builds around him for the future.
