Defense is Better

Last year, the Bucs’ defense allowed a 70% completion percentage, and couldn’t get a consistent pass rush.  To improve the situation, Noah Spence has been drafted, as has Vernon Hargreaves.  Brent Grimes and Josh Robinson have been added via free agency, as well as Robert Ayres.  The defense will be better in 2016.

What does that have to do with Winston?

Playing from behind last year, defenses had the opportunity to key on Winston.  Despite the fact that Doug Martin was second in the league in rushing, Winston had to throw a lot, posting 2,265 passing yards in the second half.  If the defense is better, the offense will be able to mix it more often during the game, taking the pressure off of Jameis.

Defenses won’t be keying on him, and he will have more room to roam.
