Winston entered the NFL with a lot of questions. There were well-documented incidents involving him while he was attending Florida State University. Some wondered if he had the makeup and character to make it in the NFL.
Winston answered the bell and then some. He was an excellent leader, both on and off the field, making it clear that he IS the guy that can be the face of the franchise, and lead the Bucs into 2016 and beyond.
Coming into this year, Winston has continued that trend. Concerned about his weight, he has come to work slimmer than last year. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Johnthan Banks thinks Winston is so much more fit that he looks like a defensive back.
For Winston, it simply was a chance to show his teammates his level of dedication:
"“As a quarterback, you have to show these guys that you’re working,” Winston said. “I didn’t want to come back and have them say, ‘Oh, Jameis looks the exact same.’ I had to give them something to talk about, right?”"
Guys like that don’t go backwards. They continue to go forward, and that is exactly what Winston is going to do.
