In a passing league it’s nearly a given that a team could get into a shoot-out at any time. For a team to be successful they need to be able to withstand an aerial onslaught and rise above their opponent in the process.
Blake Bortles went for over 300 yards against the Buccaneers in Week 5 and added four touchdowns in the process, but it was the home team that walked away with the win as they survived and defeated their pass-happy opponent 38-31.
Holding the Jags’ running game in check proved to be the key as the defense was able to pin their ears back and rush the quarterback with confidence resulting in six sacks.
On the week, Tampa finished fourth overall among NFL defenses and were a surprise leader in fantasy scoring many probably didn’t see coming.
On the individual level, Lavonte David was the top fantasy player with his 10 tackles and one sack on the day.
A win in real life and a top notch performance in the fantasy community was a great way for the team to enter the bye week, and may have had them on more than a few watch lists.
