Another major focus has been on the secondary. As mentioned before, the additions of Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves to go along with Alterraun Verner and Johnthan Banks who are out to prove their worth, the secondary has a lot on the line.

Last season, with Verner and Banks in the Lovie dog house, guys like Sterling Moore, Mike Jenkins, and Tim Jennings ran the secondary…into the ground. They couldn’t stop a slant, blew coverages, and got two interceptions as a unit. Read that again: the cornerbacks, collectively, got two interceptions.

Unacceptable.

This year, the Bucs hope that the secondary is no longer the weak link and have made great strides to shore up the position. Grimes is still one of the top – and most underrated – at the position and Hargreaves has shown in OTAs and mini-camp exactly why he was worthy of a top-15 pick. If Verner and Banks can get back on track, this secondary can actually be pretty dangerous down the stretch.
