Doug Martin

Okay Douggernaut…you had a huge season and got paid. Prove that you deserved it.

As one of Martin’s bigger fans around BucNation, seeing he was returning was a great sign for the team moving forward. As much as Martin helped Jameis, Jameis helped Martin just as much. No longer could teams focus solely on the running game with no fear of the quarterback beating them. Those days are done and we all witnessed how good, how effective, a healthy muscle hamster is. (I know he doesn’t like it, but I don’t care…that’s one of the best nicknames ever.)

With Koetter calling all the shots, it will be interesting to see how much of the “Martin Series/Sims Series” stuff was him and how much was Lovie. It seemed as if every time Martin was clicking on all cylinders, he was taken out in favor of Sims because it was “Sims’ turn”. One would think Koetter will ride the hot hand and spell Martin when he needs a quick breather, not because they have to “take turns”.

This isn’t pee-wee. Knock it off.

Martin’s return plus a second year in the system should bode well for the Bucs’ offense, as long as Martin can stay healthy and show that last season wasn’t a complete fluke.
