Doug Martin

Running backs are a fantasy owner’s best friend. So many teams are “running back by committee” that it’s hard to get any reliable ones after that first wave. Doug Martin proved last season that he’s a first wave player.

After running for 1,402 yards and adding 271 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns, Martin is as close to a first round fantasy pick as the Buccaneers have. DeMarco Murray and LeSean McCoy both took steps back last season, so after Bell and AP, Martin may be the top running back choice for owners.

Now, you can argue Todd Gurley, but as Bucs fans have witnessed first hand, sophomore slumps are a cruel monster when it comes to running backs and fantasy football. Someone will take Gurley, and likely take him ahead of Martin, but don’t get upset.

Trust in the Muscle Hamster.

Ezekial Elliot is going to be a popular high draft pick as well, but proceed with caution. We all know how great the Dallas’ O-Line is, but Zeke is still a rookie. Remember that guy that took Trent Richardson in the second round his rookie season? Yeah, don’t be that guy.

Martin will be on a mission he is worth the contract he received after being on a mission to get the contract. Don’t assume that since he got paid he’s going to slack. Martin is a key part to the offense and he and Winston need each other for the Bucs to have success. Look to draft Martin in the early second round, but no one should question you if you take him at the tail end of the first.
