Cornerbacks

The Buccaneer cornerbacks had a plus matchup this week against an average group of Ram wideouts and much like the Bucs as a whole, they were up and down all day.

Brent Grimes did not make a single noteworthy play all game and was beaten in the end zone by Kenny Britt, forcing Grimes to hold and give up a first down. Alterraun Verner was good last week but struggled this week, allowing Brian Quick to get past him in the first quarter for a long score. Chris Conte was late to cover, but Verner should not be letting the likes of Quick get by him so easily. Later on a crucial Rams drive the Bucs’ defense faced a 3rd and 17. Verner was beat and like Grimes was forced to hold to save a touchdown.

Vernon Hargreaves didn’t make any big plays but recorded five tackles and held up in coverage.

Overall the cornerbacks didn’t allow any single Ram wide receiver to have a big day but had it not been for penalties the Rams’ receivers would have had bigger statistical days. It was a game to forget for Brent Grimes and Alterraun Verner.
