Special Teams

The scary saga of Roberto Aguayo continued versus the Rams. The rookie kicker struggled mightily in the preseason but after two games without a miss many had thought that those struggles were merely preseason speed bumps.

Against the Rams Aguayo missed an extra point as well as a 40 yard field goal, both of which would have changed the complexion of the game. Games like this are exactly why the Bucs invested in a kicker, and it’s heartbreaking that they still couldn’t capitalize. It is of course a mental issue for the talented rookie and folks can only cross their fingers that he gets it together soon. For now, the Bucs are stuck.

A bright side for the special teams can be found in newcomer Bryan Anger who was booming punt after punt against the Rams and forcing the Rams into long drives. Still, the Bucs managed to get nothing from their return groups, so it’s hard to get too excited about the special teams.
