Brent Grimes

Tampa Bay made a lot of changes to its defense this offseason. One of its biggest acquisitions was four-time Pro Bowler Brent Grimes. Up to this point, Grimes has been a disappointment. The secondary looks very much like it did a year ago, with coverage breakdowns happening multiple times a game. It’s not all on him, of course, but he hasn’t made much of a difference thus far.

Grimes has struggled this year, but if he can step up on Sunday, the perception surrounding him can change. It won’t be easy, but it’s certainly possible. Demaryius Thomas presents a tough matchup for Grimes, who tends to struggle with taller receivers. Thomas had his first 100-yard receiving game in week three, finding a good connection with his quarterback.

The only way the Bucs can have a chance to hang around on Sunday is if the defense steps up. The secondary will need to keep Trevor Siemian in check, and that starts with Grimes. If he can force a turnover or just simply take away one of Denver’s receivers, it would be a big plus for Tampa Bay. Being able to hold down his side of the field on Sunday is going to be a tough task, but if he can manage, then it could swing things in the Bucs’ favor.
