The Decision

Dirk Koetter was the perfect coach to lead this football team. Did he make mistakes? Sure he did. What first-year head coach doesn’t? He will get better. But what he did right was keep this team moving forward despite a lot of adversity. They faced a lot of injuries, but held things together to finish 9-7 and come that close to ending their playoff drought. Give Dirk a lot of credit there.

Why do I bring this up now? Because we need to look at Koetter’s instincts here. After Lovie started Cherilus in 2015, it was a different story in 2016. Cherilus found his way to the bench, starting only three games as we previously mentioned. Dirk made the call, and we saw a little glimpse into the reasons on that dark night against Dallas. Let’s not mince words. He was bad. He didn’t belong on the football field.

The bottom line is this. In the debate on quality versus quantity, the choice is quality. I completely agree with Yarcho on this one.
