Derek Barnett – Defensive End, Tennessee

When the Bucs drafted Spence last season, they added a young pass rusher who looks like he could develop into a stellar NFL performer. Although, he does lack ideal run-stopping ability at this point in his career.

Derek Barnett from Tennessee has a solid balance of both pass rushing skills and the ability to stand up well to the run.

Adam Schefter from ESPN reported Barnett missed the defensive linemen’s portion of the Saturday workouts, but there’s some hope he will still be able to participate Sunday.

It’s very important for the Volunteer junior to get in front of the scouts in Indianapolis if possible as he has looming questions about his athleticism and agility compared to the other edge linemen in this class.

Beyond Myles Garrett and Solomon Thomas who universally thought of as one and two in the defensive end category, there’s a bit of a race going to see who’s number three.

If Barnett can’t go Sunday, then he won’t have a chance until his pro day to show he’s deserving of becoming the third end off the board come April.
