The Buccaneers agreed to terms on Friday with veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Many people were concerned about the Buccaneers entering the season without a competent back-up quarterback behind Jameis Winston. They can now put those fears to bed, as the Buccaneers have announced the signing of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a 12 year veteran in the league, best known for his college time at Harvard, his astounding beard, and his terrific nickname “Fitzmagic”. The former seventh round pick of the Rams has spent time with seven different teams, most recently with the New York Jets. Fitzpatrick is your classic journeyman quarterback that can start in a pinch, and he should be able to keep the Buccaneers offense afloat in the event of a Jameis Winston injury. The veteran is one season removed from a 3905 yard, 31 touchdown season with the Jets, and though he was bad last year he remains one of the best value back-ups in the league.

The terms of the Fitspatrick deal aren’t yet available, but we’ll update as soon as we have them. You can probably expect to see a short term deal for a low amount of money, which makes this move even more appealing for the Bucs. Though Jameis Winston has yet to miss a game in his professional career, the risk of injury is always looming, especially with his physical, win-at-all-means style of play. Jason Licht continues to make fantastic moves to sure up the soft spots of his roster.
