3. Defensive End George Johnson
So this is an easy one and in fact something that I thought would happen last season during cut down since he was already on injured reserve at that time with a hip injury and was benched the prior season. Now this season it is pretty much a given with the return of defensive end Jacquies Smith who played one snap last season before going down to an ACL injury.
Johnson came to Tampa via trade from Detroit prior to the 2015 season and was a complete bust. In his first season playing with the Buccaneers, Johnson appeared in eleven games but was benched as a starter after five. He mustered 23 tackles zero sacks and two forced fumbles. Johnson was replaced by a more effective combination of William Gholston and Howard Jones. Smith has had 6.5 sacks or more during his two healthy seasons in Tampa and is a major upgrade to Johnson. Cutting Johnson this season will cost the team nothing but if they had cut him last season it would have cost them $2-million in dead money. He will not likely survive the cut down period as the season approaches.
