Brent Grimes

Many of you that visit this website know that I was skeptical of this acquisition. Brent Grimes stands at 5-10. The receivers around the NFL, especially the elite ones, are at least six feet tall. The prospect of Julio Jones towering over him twice a year was scary. In 2015, Brandon Marshall used his height to take Grimes to school on two separate occasions. He seemed too short for the height of today’s game.

Good thing Jason Licht didn’t listen to me. To his credit, Grimes had a fantastic season. He picked off four passes including running one back for a touchdown. He also notched 24 pass defenses and 57 total tackles. He was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the best corner against the double move in 2016. Not too bad for a 33-year-old man.

So what makes him worthy of my foxhole? Well, you want to have a guy with experience. In scenarios that could potentially turn dangerous, you want someone with you that has seen everything. Nothing should be new to that partner so he can guide you through any scenario safely. Getting surprised could be deadly. With Brent Grimes, you have an 11-year veteran. He has seen it all and can get through it all.
