2017 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the 2002 Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so how does the 2017 team compare to the 2002 team.

2017 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning their first, and so far, only Super Bowl title against the Oakland Raiders. With many believing that the playoffs are on the horizon for the Bucs, this season hopefully, I figured now would be a good time to see how the current squad compares, position by position, talent wise to the 2002 Super Bowl Champions.

As I mentioned above I am not going to compare individual player by player because as that would be insane since everyone knows the 2002 team was a defensive juggernaut and has two current NFL Hall of Famers on defense with probably two more going in sometime soon and obviously a Super Bowl Championship.

Instead I am going to compare the position groups as a whole. Most people will say that the defense alone was one of the two best defenses in NFL history, and the 2017 Bucs defense is nowhere near that so how can they be compared?

In some ways the 2017 team may actually be better in some of the positional groups due to the players that they have and the schemes that they use to emphasize a position more than the 2002 Bucs did.

Well you will all have to read just to see how these Bucs positions stack up to the 2002 Super Bowl Champion Bucs, so is everyone ready? … Here we go.
